Early installations with ERTMS

Trafikverket has four railway lines operating with ERTMS. Apart from the pilot lines, there are also two test lines used for testing the system and equipment in a real environment without disturbing the regular traffic.

ERTMS is first being developed by the system provider in a test lab.

After that the trackside and on-board equipment is being tested on Trafikverket’s two test lines in Katrineholm–Åby and Mertainen outside Svappavaara.

The test lines are a step forward in introducing the new signalling system. It is where test campaigns are being carried out in order to guarantee that different on-board systems match with the trackside system.

The tests also contribute to a further development of the trackside system by testing dynamic processes, GPRS and different interfaces such as RBC–RBC, interlocking–interlocking and ATC–ERTMS in another testing environment.

In-service experience

As soon as the system has received the system approval it will be installed on the pilot lines for at least a six months in-service experience. Trafikverket disposes of four pilot lines that operate with ERTMS and where regular rail traffic is running.

More information in JNB and at Transportstyrelsen

You can find information about the available infrastructure in the Network Statements JNB (”järnvägsnätsbeskrivningen”) under chapter 3. Chapter 3.2.2 lists the all major infrastructure changes, whereas the map service contains more geographical details. Information about which trackside and on-board system has undergone an integration approval process can be found on the website of the Swedish Transport Agency (“Transportstyrelsen”)
